The band was formed in Nashville, Tennessee, USA. Its founders are three brothers: Caleb (lead vocals and rhythm guitar), Jared (bass guitarist, backing vocalist, also plays the synthesizer) and Nathan (drummer, backing vocalist) Fallowill. Their cousin Matthew Fallowill (lead guitarist and backing vocalist) helped them to realise this project.

Caleb Followill
One of the founders of Kings of Leon. He is the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist of the band. Caleb's vocals are characterised by a raw, slightly hoarse tone, which gives the music a special sincerity and tension- this has become one of the band's trademarks. Caleb Followill recently broke a bone in his heel in a "freak" accident.

Jared Followill
Bass guitarist, keyboardist and backing vocalist. He was born on 20 November 1986 in Tennessee, USA. He is the brother of Kings of Leon lead singer Caleb Followill and drummer Nathan Followill, and cousin of lead guitarist Matthew Followill. Jared joined the band at a very young age, at fifteen. Several musicians influenced his development as a creative personality, including Peter Hook from Joy Division and New Order, Kim Dil from The Pixies, and Nikolai Freiche from The Strokes. In 2012, the artist married Martha Fallowill, and on 21 January 2020, they had a daughter, Adeline James.
Matthew Followill
Lead guitarist, keyboardist, backing vocalist. One of the founders of Kings of Leon, born on 10 September 1984 in Oklahoma, USA. Together with the band, he worked on the albums Only By the Night (2008) and Come Around Sundown (2010). Matthew Followill is not only passionate about music, he also tries his hand at acting and composing. He can be seen in the films I Am the Fourth (2011), Monstro (2008), and Paranoia (2007).
Nathan Followill
Drummer and backing vocalist, born on 26 June 1979 in Oklahoma, USA. On 14 November 2009, the musician married Jessie Bailyn, and the couple have two children. Together with the band, Nathan Followill has recorded several albums and songs that have achieved hit status.

Aha Shake Heartbreak, for example, is Kings of Leon's second studio album. It was released in late autumn 2004 in the United Kingdom and a little later in February 2005 in the USA. This album is unique in that it is the only one in the band's discography to have been given a ‘parental guidance’ rating. Its cover is similar to the cover of Queen's album A Night at the Opera. The original version for Great Britain and Ireland was released with a black cover and an orchid image, while the later version, intended for the American public, had a white background and a different type of orchid.
