James Bay was born on 4 September 1990. He spent his childhood and teenage years in Hitchin, a small town in Hertfordshire. Interestingly, young James had no plans to become a rock artist; at the time, he was more interested in drawing. He also dreamt of becoming a ghost hunter (he was deeply impressed by the film Ghostbusters, released in 1984) or a firefighter.
