The name of the band comes from a misheard lyric in Nick Cave's song ‘Water's Edge’. Guitarist Rory Young loved the song, but he always pronounced the words as ‘sea girls’ instead of ‘city girls’.

Sea Girls - I Want You To Know Me

Many of the band's tracks have a cheerful vibe, conveying the atmosphere of the indie scene of the 90s. The bright sound of the guitar is complemented by loud drums, creating an optimistic sound. It is this feature of Sea Girls' musical style that has made them frequent guests at festivals.

The songs ‘I Want You To Know Me’ and ‘Come Back To Me’ highlight the artists' ability to write catchy melodies. “Superman” features shouts that are almost annoying, which makes the track memorable. In ‘Weekends and Workdays,’ the lead singer tries to overshadow the very rich instrumentation.

The band's tracklist also includes more restrained and concise compositions. For example, ‘Horror Movies’ tells of the carefree nature of youth, contrasting it with adult life.

Also noteworthy is the track with the philosophical title ‘Does Only God Know That We're Lonely?’, which immerses listeners in reflections on loneliness and existential questions.

Among all the band's songs, the piano ballad ‘Scream and Shout’ stands out, making you want to listen to it over and over again.
