Who are Sault?

The band formed in 2019 in London. In December 2023, the group performed live for the first time, giving their debut concert in the capital of Great Britain.

In just a few years, Sault have managed to capture the attention of critics and audiences alike, receiving awards and nominations, whilst their tracks feature in charts and on radio stations worldwide.

Awards and nominations

Sault are often described as a band that is difficult to categorise but impossible to ignore — and critics have taken note. In a relatively short time, the band has earned respect in the music world.

In 2021, their album ‘Untitled’ (Rise) was shortlisted for the Mercury Prize — one of the most prestigious British music awards, presented by a jury for ‘Album of the Year’. In 2022, the band’s album ‘Nine’ was nominated for the Ivor Novello Awards as Best Album — a significant British award for songwriting and production.

In 2023, Sault won an Ivor Novello Award for their album 11, and one of their songs, ‘Stronger’, was nominated in the Best Song, Musically and Lyrically category. Also in 2023, the group won a MOBO Award for Best R&B/Soul Act — an award focused on artists in the R&B and soul genres.

In 2024, the Brit Awards nominated Sault for Best R&B Act (best British R&B artist), and they later won in this category — a significant recognition from the British music industry.

The performers in Sault are a close-knit team who have been together for many years. The core of the group consists of Inflo and Cleo Sol.

Inflo

Inflo is the heart and soul of Sault. The artist’s real name is Dean Josiah Cover. He was born on 4 June 1988 in London. Inflo is the band’s producer, and also writes music and plays instruments: keyboards, guitar, bass and others. It is thanks to him that Sault has its own unique sound.

Inflo has been working as a producer for a long time; before Sault, he collaborated with artists such as Little Simz and Michael Kiwanuka. The musician shuns media attention, but his contribution to music cannot be overstated. In 2025, Inflo found himself at the centre of a legal dispute: Little Simz filed a lawsuit against him for unpaid debts, including substantial expenses related to a SAULT concert.

Cleo Sol

Cleo Sol is Sault’s lead vocalist. Her voice takes centre stage on the band’s tracks and has become one of the most recognisable elements of their music. The artist shuns the limelight, yet her vocals can be heard on many of Sault’s albums, and it is precisely her voice that makes the band’s sound so vibrant and emotional.

Sault’s line-up is not officially disclosed in full — it is a veritable ‘mystical musical collective’. However, it is known that the following have collaborated on the project:

1. Chronixx — a reggae artist who featured on later releases.
2. Kid Sister — a vocalist who appeared on early releases.
3. Jack Peñate — a musician/instrumentalist who has worked with the group since the album Nine.

In addition to them, other artists have collaborated with the project, including Little Simz and Michael Kiwanuka, but their contributions to successful performances do not make them full members, but rather guest collaborators appearing on individual tracks.

Such collaborations help Sault maintain a diverse sound — ranging from soul and R&B to gospel, funk elements and even orchestral elements.

Sault rarely give interviews, do not appear in the media and do not reveal themselves to the public, even when albums are released. It is precisely this air of mystery that lends them a special atmosphere: their sound is not just tracks, but a musical world into which you immerse yourself completely, without being distracted by personalities.

Sault Concerts

Sault rarely tour or go on extended tours, so every time they take to the stage, it’s a real treat for their fans. When they perform at festivals or in clubs, it’s always an event that stays with you for a long time.

In 2021, Sault headlined the Glastonbury Festival, and in 2022, Field Day, where their sets drew crowds of both soul and R&B fans and those who simply love quality music with a profound social message.

In 2023, the band headlined the London Jazz Festival. And in 2025, Sault performed at London’s biggest music festival, All Points East in Victoria Park. It was one of the rare occasions when fans could see them live. The concert took place as part of a show called ‘Provenance’, where Cleo Sol and Chronixx performed alongside Sault.

The audience was thrilled: even amidst the huge crowd, an almost intimate atmosphere was created, thanks to the energy of the live instruments, Cleo Sol’s expressive vocals and the thoughtful sound design by Inflo. Many in the audience noted that the rarity of such performances makes them particularly valuable.

Their appearance at All Points East demonstrated that even anonymous and reclusive artists can draw huge crowds and win the acclaim not only of critics but also of the general public. For Sault, this was a significant event, highlighting the uniqueness of their approach to live music.
