Who are the Nova Twins?

The Nova Twins are artists who have taken groove, punk energy and a touch of rap-rock, added a frenzied bassline, and created their own distinctive sound. This isn’t just any rock band, but a powerful duo. They’re known for their impetuous, energetic sound — a bit cheeky, a bit raw and, above all, very lively.

The core of the project consists of Amy Love (vocals, guitar) and Georgia South (bass, backing vocals). Childhood friends, they got together in London in 2014, and since then their career has been rapidly gaining momentum. It is worth noting that Amy Love has Iranian and Nigerian roots, whilst Georgia South has Jamaican and Australian ones. Georgia South’s father is also a musician.

Before becoming Nova Twins, the duo were known as BRAATS and released their first tracks under that name. The name change helped them rethink their style and move towards a more aggressive and contemporary sound.

In the early stages, the band played gigs at local London venues, honing their live performance skills. They wrote their own material.

The artists released their first song, entitled ‘Bassline Bitch’, in April 2015. This track caught the attention of the independent label Robotunes, which signed them and released their self-titled debut EP in 2016.

Following their performance at the French festival Rencontres Trans Musicales in December 2016, Nova Twins spent most of 2017 touring several countries, supporting Prophets of Rage. Afterwards, Tom Morello called them “the best band you’ve never heard of”. The band later supported Muse, Bring Me the Horizon, Little Simz, Yungblud and other artists.

Over the years, the band has released several albums and performed at major festivals. They have supported major acts on tour, making a serious mark on the music scene. Their sound is often described as “urban punk with a club vibe, yet with a genuine rock guitar drive.”

Georgia South plays the bass guitar in a way that defies the textbook—slides, string strikes and unexpected percussive techniques make her sound instantly recognisable. It is the bass that gives Nova Twins’ songs that ‘raw and lively’ drive. Amy and Georgia draw inspiration from the streets of London: graffiti, the urban atmosphere, and vibrant details — all of which feature in their album covers and on stage.

Aside from their music, the duo actively promotes ideas of equality and inclusivity. They want to show young people that the rock scene is a place for everyone, regardless of gender or background. In their songs, they tackle important issues: identity, mental health, racism, sexism and gender inequality, and they do so in a way that feels like a personal, lived experience rather than a dry lecture.

In 2017, Nova Twins launched their own bespoke clothing line, called Bad Stitches.

Awards and nominations

Throughout their career, Nova Twins have received significant recognition, particularly for a duo whose music straddles genres:

1. Their second album, Supernova, was shortlisted for the 2022 Mercury Prize, which is a great honour in the British music scene.

Amy Love

Amy Love was born on 23 March 1995 in London. She is the band’s vocalist and guitarist, songwriter and main source of creative energy. Amy began playing the guitar as a teenager and quickly realised she wanted to make music that breaks the usual genre boundaries. In Nova Twins, her guitar riffs combine with powerful vocals—at times aggressive, at times melodic—to create the band’s signature drive. Amy is actively involved in writing all the songs and shaping the band’s stage image, making the duo’s concerts vibrant and memorable.

Georgia South

Georgia South was born on 2 January 1994. Her hometown is London. She plays bass guitar and provides backing vocals, forming a unique rhythmic foundation for the band’s songs. Georgia has brought elements of funk and punk to Nova Twins, creating a dense, aggressive yet fluid foundation for the tracks. The artist is loved for her stage charisma and her ability to create an energetic atmosphere at concerts. Within the duo, Georgia is not just a performer but also a co-writer, helping to shape the band’s signature style.

Jake Woodward (Touring Member)

Jake Woodward is a drummer who joined Nova Twins for live performances. He is not an official member of the duo, but his involvement on tour makes the band’s concerts more powerful in terms of sound. Jake was born on 12 August 1992 and has been passionate about rock music and the live scene since his youth. His professional skills allow him to accurately reproduce the studio sound of the songs on stage, as well as add his own musical elements to the arrangements. On tour, he works closely with Amy and Georgia, helping to create the dynamics and energy that fans so appreciate.

Nova Twins Concerts

Nova Twins are a duo who live for the stage. Their energy at concerts literally sets the audience alight, whilst their loud riffs and powerful bass create a unique atmosphere. Over the course of their career, they have performed at major festivals, supported well-known artists and gradually built a reputation as one of the most energetic live acts in alternative rock.

In 2022, the band were among the headliners at the Glastonbury Festival. The audience received them with great enthusiasm. Their set was praised for its vibrancy and drive, particularly the tracks ‘Antagonist’ and ‘Choose Your Fighter’.

That same year, the duo set the stage alight at the Leeds Festival during their UK tour. Their set on the NME stage was incredibly energetic, and the crowd was so large that it felt as though the air in the arena was vibrating with the energy.

Another standout performance in 2022 took place at the Reading Festival. Here, Nova Twins showcased their signature blend of punk, rap and rock rhythms, and the crowd literally ‘lived’ every song with them.

In 2023, the artists shone on stage at the O2 Academy Brixton. It was a solo concert, tickets were almost completely sold out, and the audience sang along enthusiastically to every track.

Another interesting fact in the band’s biography is that in 2022 they performed as the support act for Wolf Alice. This gave Nova Twins the opportunity to showcase their music to a new audience and win over even more fans. At their concerts, the artists use unusual visual elements: lighting, projections and costumes. 1. Their debut album, Who Are the Girls?, released in 2020, introduced listeners to their blend of punk, rock and electronic music.
2. This was followed in 2022 by Supernova, which showcased Nova Twins even more broadly and established them as a prominent act on the global stage. The album was shortlisted for the 2022 Mercury Prize. The lead single ‘Antagonist’ won the ‘Best Independent Track’ category at the 2022 AIM Awards.
3. Parasites & Butterflies – a 2025 release – demonstrates how the band has grown and added even more emotion to their sound. The album was produced by Rich Costey, who has frequently collaborated with Muse. Amy Love and Georgia South have transformed from young punk enthusiasts into self-assured artists with their own unique perspective on music.
